The department opened in 1989. The academic staff consists of four medical doctors. Three of them are specialists in occupational medicine. Their main duties are clinical work. A further 2-3 MD.’s are employed in relation to research paid by research funds.
From the very beginning, the department has been interested in research on muskuloskeletal disorders related to work. An extension of this work and other research work has been an increasing interest in the psychosocial work environment, coping and personality aspects in relation to work related muskuloskeletal disorders.
In collaboration with the Department of Occupational Medicine in Lund we have conducted studies on fur sorters, letter sorters and telephone number service workers. In collaboration with the Danish National Institute on Occupational Health and the departments of Occupational Medicine in Århus and Herning we have conducted the PRIM-study on muskuloskeletal disorders and word with varying degrees of repetitive work including aspects of force an posture.
We have collaborated with the Department of Occupational Medicine in Herning and Odense in the NUDATA-project about muskuloskeletal symptoms and disorders among computer workers. And presently we are preparing a study on muskuloskeletal disorders among musicians in collaboration with the departments of Occupational Medicine in Lund and Odense.
